Thank you, Santy Claus!

Most people celebrate Christmas on December 25th. I, however, will be celebrating Christmas this coming Friday-- the day the UPS guy delivers my new pair of Asics Gel Foundation VII running shoes.

Some women get excited buying cute, strappy summer sandals. I get excited with a new pair of runners. I hold them in my hands and study them meticulously. Admiring the craftmanship. The beauty. The power of the shoes.

I remember when I was a teenager and got a new pair of tennis shoes, I'd immediately take them from the box and go to the yard to roll them through some dirt. It was so uberly uncool to have shoes that looked brand spankin' new, you see. Now, I do everything I can to keep my shoes looking sparkly and new, including using ridiculous amounts of Spray 'n Wash and old toothbrushes. It's a sickness. I've accepted this.

I'm stepping up my shoe selection this time to a shoe designed specifically for motion control. In the past, I've worn neutral shoes and stability shoes and it's become obvious, due to my overpronation tendencies, my legs need much more help than they've been getting. I'm hopeful my brand spankin' new Asics will be the answer to a lot of my woes.
I'm even optimistic my new shoes will help me run seven-minute miles.

Talk about a Christmas miracle.

I'm always interested in how new shoes work out for people, so let us know. When you went from neutral to stability, did you notice any difference in your feet/legs?

That picture is so cute!

Congrats on your new Asics! They definately will get you running seven minute miles...even faster.

Testimonial: I got faster...When I got a brand new pair of Asics Kayanos this spring. I was running eight minute miles until I got my new Asics...now I'm running 6.5-7 minute miles and getting faster every day. I even got me a second pair and then two other brands of Asics...I'm worse than a woman when it comes to shoes...sorry ;o)...but I must have 8-9 shoes just in my current rotation.

Disclaimer: Training may also have contributed to my speed increase.

Have fun with your shoes!

Merry Christmas Angie. You're lucky you get to use the new sneaks right away: My early Christmas present of new XC Skis arrived in April. I've still got at least 6-7 months before I can use them. They sit in the corner as useful as a wet match!

You will not only run faster, but jump higher and farther too. Don't wear them to bed though, Angie, just snuggle up next to them (with your arm around them). Merry Christmas!

I normally alternate my running shoes, wearing stability shoes one day, the next day wearing motion control shoes, that way my feet don't get too accustomed to one type of shoes...besides, gives me more excuses to buy more shoes!! I also wear light weight trainers for races and speed work.

Thanks for the happy b-day wish!

I saw your comment on Joe's blog. I just wanted to say that I have run through IT Band pain. It's weird in that I think it's a part of the body that really needs to adjust to running and if everytime it hurts you stop running it never adjusts. Honestly, I think you're better off running some easy runs on a flat surface (this is key--no hills, and no slanty roads--flat road, train or the treadmill) and stretching religiously. Also do Jane Fonda style side leg lifts on each side until you can't do anymore each night to strengthen the hips. You got to get them stretched out good and get those hips stronger and more resilient. I know my opinion on this is probably not popular, but that's what's worked for me. Good luck with it whatever you do!!!

PS Are the shoes everything you hoped them to be?

love that you call them runners. love the spray n wash w/ toothbrush thing ... am adopting all 3 for myself. i just got new kicks too ... need to get a second pair of the same & rotate them - they'll last longer ... perfect excuse to buy another pair! Merry Christmas AND happy birthday! Is this an entirely new brand for you or did oyu just switch styles? If new brand -- i'd be eager to hear how that works out for you. i'm too chicken to try a new brand - hate messing with my mojo.
